Purpose

This knowledge builder considers spatial planning regulations with respect to protected trees and woodlands, including associated amenity and management concerns. It does not consider hedgerows, since these are considered in a separate module.

Benefits

The planning system encourages new tree planting where appropriate, in order to enhance amenity and biodiversity. In terms of regulation, the provision of trees and woodlands presents an important aspect of amenity and as such the planning system includes provision for protection of such features in appropriate circumstances.

Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.

Learning method

A knowledge builder on a topic of interest to most in society. This module covers aspects of countryside management. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
