Purpose

The delivery of housing in a sustainable way and the need to meet affordability targets necessitate coordination and integration of policies and strategies. The trajectory of integration in recent years has been towards joint strategies at a national and regional level and coordinated processes at the local level. This presents new challenges to planners and planning.

Benefits

If planning is about delivery rather than regulation and if spatial planning is to mean something then integration of a range of policy sectors such as transport, economic development and education with planning and housing will be required.

Audience

Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.

Learning method

This knowledge builder provides the details behind the debate on housing and planning strategies. Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading is provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject.
