Purpose

Mineral resources are important national assets. Their extraction and use makes a major contribution to our economic well-being and quality of life. However extraction, processing and transportation of minerals have significant impacts for the environment and quality of life. This knowledge builder focuses on the balance planners need to achieve.

Benefits

The approval and regulation of sites for mineral extraction is a major element of planning, mainly in rural areas. Planners have the task of balancing demand for essential industrial raw materials with policies for preserving and protecting the countryside.
