Purpose

Accessibility appraisals examine how steps can be taken to ensure that people are able to get to key services, jobs and other opportunities. This will be achieved through the process of accessibility planning which is to be built into the second round of Local Transport Plans (LTPs). This knowledge builder considers accessibility appraisal through the process of accessibility planning.

Benefits

As well as improving accessibility, especially for disadvantaged groups and deprived areas, accessibility planning can contribute to central government objectives relating to employment, health and education as well as improving access to arts, cultural and leisure services and facilities.

Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.
