PurposeThis module expands on the relationship between spatial planning and Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SUDS) in an effort to promote more sustainable approaches to the management of surface water run-off. |
BenefitsPlanning has an important role to play in minimising the negative impacts of the built environment on natural resources such as water. The planning system also has a responsibility in facilitating the use of SUDS in practice. As the NSWG noted ‘Local planning authorities play a pivotal role in ensuring that sustainable drainage systems are incorporated into new developments.’ |
