Purpose

Data and evidence underpin planning. This knowledge builder suggests planners need to be aware of how data and evidence should be collected, analysed and used, and offers useful methods.

Benefits

Data and evidence are at the core of plan making and decision taking. Contested policies and decisions need to be defended in terms of appeals to evidence. For policymakers the collection, analysis, use and review of data from all sources will be an increasingly important skill for planners.
