Purpose

Tourism impact assessment is a mechanism that can assist in evaluating potential impacts from tourism development, in order to assess costs and benefits, thereby allowing an overall assessment to be made of the contribution of the proposal to broad aims for sustainable development.

Benefits

The planning system, in facilitating and promoting the implementation of good quality development, can help to ensure the maximisation of benefits, and minimisation of costs (social, economic and environmental) arising from tourism development. More specifically, the planning system can help ensure that benefits are achieved in the most sustainable manner.
