Purpose

This knowledge builder provides background information on disability access (legislation, regulations and policy) with particular attention given to the implications for local authorities, for example the building control and town and country planning services and local authority premises.

The module will be of use particularly to students of civil law, building surveying, town planning, public policy makers and decision takers and professionals working in the fields of town planning, building surveying and disability rights.

Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic.

Learning method

The module focuses on disability access with regard to the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA), the Disability Rights Commission Act 1999 and the Building Act 1984 (part M). Additionally a range of further reading and associated websites are provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development (CPD).
