Purpose

This knowledge builder examines the proposals for development management – the new term for development control in Scotland, as put forward in the Planning etc (Scotland) Act 2006 – and their implications for spatial planning practice, with particular reference to the new planning hierarchy.

The Act brings a new approach to development management, particularly by means of enhanced efficiency and facilitation of development, in line with the overall ethos of the modernisation of spatial planning.
