Purpose

This knowledge builder focuses on urban design as a process of making places for people. It provides an introduction to the activity of urban design; defines urban design; discusses knowing and unknowing urban designers; explains why knowing urban design is necessary; presents different traditions of thought in urban design; and discusses what makes a ‘good’ place.
