Purpose

Solar energy forms an important component of renewable energy. This Knowledge Builder considers the planning implications of solar energy applications, including passive solar design, active solar (also known as photovoltaics (PV)) and solar thermal (solar water heating).

Benefits

The encouragement of the use of solar energy, as part of a broad strategy for renewable energy, is an integral part of broader principles of sustainable development to which the Government is committed, in the context of broad spatial planning policy.
