PurposePeople of diverse faiths have been British citizens for centuries but it is in comparatively recent times that, what might be called a multi-faith society, is recognisable. Today, when debate about faiths has often centred on issues of fundamentalism and terrorism, there is a need for planners involved in regeneration and the development of sustainable communities to have a better understanding of faith communities. This knowledge builder promotes that understanding. |
BenefitsCommunity engagement is a fundamental requirement of all planning activity, whether preparation of local development frameworks, consultations on a planning proposal or regeneration and community renewal. Faith communities are just one formation within that wider community, but one that is both diverse and extensive. |
