Purpose

This knowledge builder provides information on the second National Planning Framework (NPF2) for Scotland and its role in planning policy development under the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006 which confers enhanced status on the NPF.

Benefits

The main benefits to be derived from an appreciation of the issues raised in this module will include a better understanding of the spatial planning and policy contexts, with a time horizon of 2030, within which the preparation of statutory development plans will take place in Scotland and which guide the framing of Government spending plans and priorities.

Audience

Urban and regional planners and all those wishing to build and assess their knowledge of the topic - specifically planning professionals, elected members and others, including students of town and country planning, operating the planning system in the public private and other sectors.

Learning method

A knowledge builder which identifies projected and relevant infrastructure projects and explains the criteria for selecting them. It also gives an overview of the main difference between the first NPF (2004) and NPF2 (2008). Additionally a comprehensive range of further reading and web site links are provided for those who wish to become expert in the subject. Includes a voluntary self assessment for recording continuous professional development.
