Purpose and benefitsThere are two broad areas to the financial pages of newspapers. One consists of a simple listing, primarily of shares quoted on the stock exchange, divided into various industry sectors then shown alphabetically with certain details on each share. The other area will contain reports by journalists on individual shares and other general economic and financial information. Often the article will end with an opinion upon whether or not the share should be purchased as an investment. How much credence is attached to such opinion is a matter of individual judgment. |
